Frequently Asked Questions
1. Must I log on to the course at one particular place or time?
  You can take online courses from anywhere in the world. Anytime means day or night, however online courses have regular assignments and deadlines. Your instructor will expect you to have assignments completed by their due dates.
2. How often do I have to log on to the course?
  It is hard to absorb every thing at once, so you should plan to log in often.
3. Can I get credits easily more easily with an online course?
  No, online courses take more time! You should not take more than two distance learning courses per semester. These courses generally require 7-10 hours a week. Don't overload yourself.
4. Do online courses follow semester calendar?
  Yes, online courses follow the regular academic calendar and attendance policies are in effect. You need to be present so plan vacations accordingly.
5. Are broken computers great excuses?
  No, a broken computer is no excuse. You can always find a computer at the college, at a public library, or at an internet cafe. Online instructors have the same expectation of their students as in regular classes. You should have a back-up plan for when your computer is broken.
6. Will I be provide with a computer?
  The college does not provide computers. Students should have their own computer. A computer is like any other required course material. Don't depend on others for access to a computer.
7. Do I have to be an experienced Internet/computer user to take online courses?
  You should have basic working knowledge of computers such as word processing, using the Internet, and checking e-mail. Good typing skills are also required.
8. Can I hide out and remain anonymous?
  Students cannot remain anonymous. Lots of discussion activities take place between the students of the class and the instructor. Much of your grade maybe based on participation. Because you are not meeting face-to-face, shy students are often feel more able to participate.
9. Is it okay to procrastinate?
  Students who participate in distance learning must be very responsible; they must be able to create their own schedule and stick to it.
10. Is there any personal attention from teacher?
  Professors log on daily and respond to questions via e-mail or through the course message board or may have prescribed times to "chat" with students. Distance learing participants often feel there is more interaction with the instructor than in a regular classroom environment.
