Courses

The English as a Second Language component of the Department of Academic Literacy and Linguistics provides developmental writing instruction to BMCC students who have taken but not yet passed the CUNY Assessment Test in Writing (CATW) and whose first language is not English. Students are placed in the appropriate level of ESL based on their CATW and reading score. There are three levels of ESL, ranging from low-intermediate to advanced: ESL54/49, ESL94, and ESL95.In addition there are co-requisite courses available, combining ESL95 and ACR95 (ESL96) and credit-bearing courses in CRT and LIN combined with ESL95 (e.g., CRT100.6, LIN100.6, etc.)
