Overview of the CUNY Proficiency Examination
Learn all about the exam and how to prepare for it. This workshop also provides tips on how to prepare for the exam and will help you determine if you might need further assistance. This workshop is good for all students whether they are ready to take the exam or just want to learn more about the CPE.

Task 1: Workshop: Analytic Reading and Writing
Learn all about Task 1 of the CPE. This workshop will analyze the Task 1 writing prompt, explain the scoring rubric in depth, describe the different types of readings used, identify the different skills you will need for a successful Task 1 essay, and help you avoid the mistakes students often make on Task 1.

How to Prepare the Task 1: Long Reading
These workshops are limited to 25 students and are held at the Reading Lab (S500R).

These workshops will not discuss the actual Task 1 reading that is given in advance, but will demonstrate useful techniques for dealing with any Reading Selection A. Students will try out these techniques on sample readings.

How to Approach Reading Selection B (the Task 1 Short Reading)
These workshops are limited to 25 students and are held at the Reading Lab (S500R)

These workshops will model techniques for dealing with Reading Selection B. Students will practice how to identify the focus of the Task 1 second reading and how to read efficiently under time pressure for the specific information needed for the Task 1 essay.

Task 2: Analyzing and Integrating Material from Graphs and Text
Learn what is required to do well on Task 2 of the CPE. These workshops will present an in-depth description of the directions, explain how Task 2 is graded, and show you how to frame your response effectively. You will then practice what you have learned by taking an actual Task 2 exam from past years.

Reading and Interpreting Graphs
The Department of Social Secience is offering these workshops to help students on Task 2 of the CPE

Learn how to read, analyze and describe graphical information by looking at and discussing many examples of various types of graphs. This workshop will cover some of the common traps and mistakes students make when dealing with graphs.

CPE Test Anxiety Reduction & Test-Taking Strategies
This workshop helps you to develop a strategy plan for success on the CPE. This workshop will also cover techniques to reduce your anxiety so that you can perform at your best.

Peer Study Session:
(S500-Writing Center)

These sessions are designed for students who are taking the CPE this semester to discuss and review the Task 1 advance reading (Reading Selection A) together in study groups. Students should bring Reading Selection A with them.
