1. written a focused, well organized essay
2. understood the texts
3. used sources correctly
4. written clearly and effectively
Students Who Do Well:
prepared the Task I reading before hand
› read it carefully
› annotated the text
› looked up vocabulary
› summarized sections
› outlined the text
focused their essays clearly
made logical connections between the readings and their own experiences
used personal experiences for analytic, NOT narrative purposes

2. completeness
3. clarity
Students Who Do Well:
stated the main claims (main points) of the reading clearly
› explained the main claim(s)
› didn’t paraphrase the whole reading
interpreted the graphs in relationship to the reading
› accurately described the charts
› described the extent to which the data supported or challenged the main claim
› realized data may partially support or challenge
