Peer Mentoring
A peer mentor can be of great help to you. Our BMCC Peer Mentors have volunteered their time to assist you in your journey to academic success.
They are your fellow students who have many of the same responsibilities and problems as you do, have overcome many obstacles and have maintained a GPA of 3.3 or above!
Our peer mentors will be assigned by major when possible and can assist you with:
- Test and term paper preparation.
- Tips on study skills, notetaking, and critical thinking.
- Time management, organizational skills, and setting priorities.
- Establishing of short term and long term goals, as well as strategies to accomplish these goals.
- An orientation to the students' sub-culture. Learning how to negotiate "the system."
- Networking.
- Formulation of a specific plan to raise your GPA; projection and calculation of the grades needed in order to return to an acceptable academic level.
- Serve as a friend in time of need, and make the appropriate referrals (counseling, tutoring, etc.)
- The sharing of personal "success strategies".
