I graduated with Honors from BMCC spring 2008 and transferred to City College where I am majoring in Sociology. As a College Discovery student, I learned how to advocate on my behalf and develop the confidence I needed to succeed at a four year college.
My advice to all CD students is take advantage of the support services available in the College Discovery Program. The academic advisors will help you make the best course selections and the counselors will help you adjust to all areas of college life.
My next advice is to complete your degree at BMCC if you plan to transfer to a CUNY senior college. The advantage is you will continue to receive support from Special Programs as a SEEK student, have a college degree, and if your major is Liberal Arts, most if not all your general education requirements will be satisfied so that you can focus on your major in the first semester after transfer.
If I had not started at the Borough of Manhattan Community College to work on my Associate's degree, I would not have been as prepared to handle the work in a senior college. At BMCC, the staff and faculty provided excellent support, guidance and preparation for my next step in higher education.
