Mission of Center for Career Development

The Center for Career Development strives to inspire and prepare all BMCC students and alumni to make informed decisions about their careers through counseling, teaching, and connection to networking opportunities.


Katherine Bedoya, Employer Relations Coordinator
Photo of KatherineKatherine Bedoya joined the Center for Career Development in August 2015 as the Employer Relations Assistant. She transitioned into her new role as the Employer Relations Coordinator in October 2016. She brings her experience of three years in Employer Relations from her previous position at the Starr Career Development Center at Baruch College. Katherine received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Real Estate and Communications from Baruch College. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, art, and binge watching TV shows.

Beth Cooperman, Employer Relations Assistant
Photo of KatherineBeth Cooperman joined the Center for Career Development in December 2016 as the Employer Relations Assistant. Beth has a Master’s degree in Counselor Education focusing in school counseling and play therapy. Previously, Beth has worked as a career advisor, school counselor, and theatre teaching artist. Beth has been involved in theatre since she was a young girl. She considers herself a performer at heart, and loves using the arts in her work in higher education. Beth loves Broadway, museums, Improv, and anything having to do with dinosaurs. 

Neville Fleming, College Assistant
Photo of KatherineNeville Fleming is a College Assistant at the BMCC Center for Career Development. Having worked at the center for 3 years, Neville is well equipped in helping students with career related matters. Prior to becoming a College Assistant, Neville was a full-time student at BMCC, majoring in Business Administration. He worked seasonal positions at the Toy’s-R-Us in Times Square and the Bronx Zoo. Fast-forward to the current day, Neville is a student at Baruch College majoring in Accounting. And he also works at the health insurance tech startup, Oscar Health Insurance as an accountant in the Treasury Department. He plans on getting his CPA and becoming an entrepreneur sometime in the near future. Neville’s hobbies include fitness, programming, and relaxing.  

Sarah Lynch, Senior Career Advisor
photo of sarahSarah Lynch joined the Center for Career Development in February, 2015. Her previous position was at LIM College where she taught experiential education courses, managed abroad internships and had a caseload of students and employers. She earned a Masters of Social Work at Stony Brook University and has a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology. Sarah enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing sports, cooking and traveling.

Jessica Maldonado, College Assistant
Photo of KatherineJessica Maldonado joined the Center for Career Development in March 2015 as a Career Development Assistant. She previously worked as a System Support Assistant/Team Leader. Jessica brings her experience of 6 years in this new role of Career Development Assistant. She enjoys being the first point of contact for new and returning students, listening and identifying their needs/concerns to assist accordingly. She also enjoy spending time with her family, traveling and cooking. She is currently pursuing her Business Administration degree.  

Driada Rivas, Associate Director
Driada Pic Driada has worked at City University of New York since 1999. She joined the BMCC Center for Career Development in 2007. She previously worked at Bronx Community College (BCC) as the Cooperative Work Experience/Internship Coordinator and was promoted to Coordinator of Career Planning and Placement. She holds a Master’s degree in Science with a dual concentration in Counseling and Personnel Services and a Bachelor’s degree in Science with a concentration in Sociology from Fordham University. Driada was the Job Placement Coordinator at the Career Planning and Placement Office at her alma mater from 1996-1999. Driada has 21 years of experience in the career development field. Driada is looking forward to starting her doctoral studies in the near future. In her free time, Driada enjoys music, spending time with her daughter and family, and traveling the world.

Thierry Thesatus, Senior Career Advisor
Tphoto of thierryhierry Thesatus joined the Center for Career Development in January 2015. Prior to BMCC, Mr. Thesatus worked as a Career Counselor and Enrollment Coach at LIU Brooklyn. He has also previously worked as a Career Facilitator and teacher at the Young Adult Borough Center at Monroe High School for Good Shepherd Services. Mr. Thesatus earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, New York State Initial Teaching Certification, and Masters of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in History at Stony Brook University. Mr. Thesatus is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He is also an avid sports fan and enjoys listening to music, watching shows including Game of Thrones, Gotham and Walking Dead, as well as hiking, camping, and spending time with family and friends. 

Vladlena Varshavskaya, Office Assistant
Photo of VladlenaVladlena Varshavskaya began working at Borough of Manhattan Community College in March of 2010 as a College Assistant for the Testing Office and Registrar’s Office. Vladlena later joined the Center for Career Development as a full time CUNY Office Assistant in October 2013. Prior to BMCC, Vladlena worked at an insurance company that specialized in coverage for the taxi and limousine industry. She received her Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York, Empire State College. Vladlena is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Management and Leadership at the City University of New York School of Professional Studies. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Elizabeth Yan, IT Coordinator
Photo of KatherineElizabeth Yan joined the Center for Career Development in October of 2016. She previously worked at the City University of New York at the College of Staten Island as a Social Media Assistant for the Center for Career and Professional Development. She earned her Bachelor of Science in International Trade and Marketing at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In her spare time, she enjoys writing, traveling, and trying new cuisines.

The Center for Career Development is located in room S-342 in the 199 Chambers Street building. Here are directions to BMCC including several transportation options.

You can stop by during Walk-In hours without an appointment and speak with one of our Career Development Assistants. They can provide an overview of the different resources we offer and review your resume. They can also assist you in scheduling an appointment with one of the advisors above. Walk-In and office hours are listed below.
