What Goals Suit You
Establishing clear and good career goals helps you to decide specifically
what position you desire in a given field. One reason people fail
to achieve their goals is that they don't pick the right ones.
The "right" goals are not simply those that are the most desirable,
but the ones that are most consistent with a person's background,
personality and ability.
Goals must be realistic, achievable and well defined.
- Realistic
To determine the feasibility of your career goals, seek the advice
of someone, perhaps alumni, already in a position you think would
suit you and your career ideas. Another avenue is to speak with
an employment or hiring professional and discuss your goals and
projected position.
- Achievable
Achievable goals are those which you have the technical and educational
background to obtain.
- Well-Defined
Goals that are well-defined are easier to accomplish for the mere
fact that you have a clear picture of an end result.
Goals can include a variety of aspects including desired organizational
level, functional area, specialty, industry and geography.
