Tips for telephoning for an interview appointment
When calling the employer to set up an interview, repeat his/her name, introduce yourself, and give the reason for your call.
Example:
"Mrs. Brown, I'm Scott Johnson, a student at BMCC, calling in regard to the clerical position you listed with the Placement Office."

When you are asked what work experience you have, briefly describe the type of firm you worked for and give the title of the position you held. Remember, if possible, choose a job which comes closest to your skills.

Example:
"I worked for Brown, Nelson, & Harris, a law firm, as a clerical assistant." When asked about your duties, try to state the tasks you performed in order of importance.

Example:

"I handled incoming calls, took messages, typed memos, and ran errands."
Finally, if the employer's job order states that the work hours will be flexible, be prepared to state the exact times you can devote to work. Always remember that school work is your major priority.
Example:
"I am available all day Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and could possibly be at your office by 2:00p.m. on Thursday."
To Sum Up:
Organize your strategy before you call.
Speak clearly in a polite and relaxed manner.
Answer questions in concise sentences.
Write down your work experience and former employers, so that you can refer back to specific information if you don't have a resume.
