Closing the interview

As the interview closes, be sure to express interest in the position and briefly summarize why you are qualified. Then ask what the next step will be or when you can expect to hear from the interviewer. This inquiry demonstrates your confidence and interest and gives you important information.

Remember that you are trying to set yourself apart from the other candidates. Be organized and prepared. End the interview on a strong note by expressing your appreciation for the interview and reiterating your interest in the position.

You may also ask when a decision is expected to be made and if there is anything else required of you.

Finally, ask for a business card so you can send a thank you letter within 24 hours. If no card is available, make sure you learn the correct spelling of the interviewer's first and last name.

Thank the interviewer for his/her time and express your pleasure at having had the opportunity to meet him/her.

You may follow-up by phone if you have not heard from the interviewer within two weeks.
