Women's Herstory Month: Communicating Responsibly in the Age of #MeToo

March 14
2:00 PM — 4:00 PM
Room F-204, Fiterman Hall

#MeToo has made us aware of how huge the problem of sexual violence is in our society. The #metoo hashtag was created by social activist Tarana Burke over a decade ago, but only gained notoriety when white celebrities embraced it in 2017.

While hashtags and soundbites are useful, they flatten out nuances of communication about gender, sexuality, consent, and relationships. In this workshop we will talk about what sexual harassment is, what you can do about it at BMCC, and how we can all communicate responsibly with one another to work to end it.

Speakers: Professors Ben Powell and Brianne Waychoff, Department of Speech, Communications, and Theatre Arts

This is a CCT (Co-Curricular Transcript) event.

Sponsor: The Communication Studies Club
