How should faculty address student hostility in the classroom when ideological and/or ethical disagreements emerge? What methods should faculty employ in the classroom when the learning environment turns hostile? Are there preventative methods for student hostility? What behavioral trends are faculty noticing among their various courses? Join this session to talk about the challenges faculty experience in the classroom and how they have succeeded in addressing confrontation when discussing sensitive topics. We'll be joined by Ian Wentworth, BMCC’s Student Conduct Advisor.
This session is part of a faculty-led "brown bag" series on pedagogy that takes place once a month in CETLS. Each meeting will focus on a specific topic related to teaching and learning. We will discuss effective teaching strategies as well as challenges in a non-formal environment. Please bring your own lunch!
