Engaging in undergraduate research, scholarship, and creative activity (URSCA) can benefit students across academic disciplines, and can have a substantial impact on student learning and development. Integrating URSCA into the curriculum provides all students with an opportunity to participate in these activities, providing more equitable access to the benefits of URSCA.
In this day-long workshop, we'll explore models of integrating URSCA into the undergraduate curriculum, drawing on examples from the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. We will hear from BMCC faculty who have successfully integrated URSCA in their classes, and will consider how to include URSCA in our own classes.
The workshop will be facilitated by Jeffrey Osborn, Dean of the School of Science and Professor of Biology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). His teaching has covered a range of areas, including biology, botany, and interdisciplinary courses such as Understanding Biology through Art. He employs an array of pedagogical methods and directly incorporates authentic research into his courses.
This workshop is part of a series of faculty development opportunities at BMCC focused on high impact teaching practices. This series is made possible by funds from the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program - Title V grant.
