Written in 1953 by Swiss playwright Max Frisch, the play is a dark comedy about a town regularly attacked by arsonists. The arsonists, posing as door-to-door salesmen, talk their way into people's homes and settle into their attics to plot destruction. Max Frisch lived through the Communist takeover in Prague and Nazis coming to power in Germany--the play can be interpreted on many levels.
