This event will inform students about child trafficking in America through a documentary screening of child prostitutes in New York City.
Many of these girls have been faced with the possibility of jail time but through the non-for-profit organization called GEMS (Girls Educational & Mentoring Services), founded by an ex-child prostitute, many of these girls have the opportunity to build their lives again.
It is the only organization in NY state for young women ages 12-24 who have been sexually exploited that assists them in finding jobs, receive therapy and counseling sessions, are encouraged to go to school, and find a home for themselves, rather than face jail time.
