Explores images that depict female experiences in the ancient world. A wedding procession, two women weaving at a loom, unchaperoned women playing at a fountain house, are all images that appear on gendered, "female" objects.
Other images show women seated on birthing chairs, and giving babies their first baths, scenes that further speak to female experience. Who made these artworks? Who saw them? We will consider the potential for these images to reflect the lived experience of the female viewer and, the extent to which these images may have prescribed gender roles.
