During the Colombian War in the 1980s Lucila C. Corredor lost three of her closest family members in 10 months: her mother, her father and her brother Jorge Luis. When she was starting to recover, a plane going to Cali, on which another brother, Rafa, was traveling, crashed due to a bomb. It took many years and lots of pain and suffering for her to re-organize something similar to a normal life.
When she moved to New York in 1996, she had to return to school to be recognized as the professional she already was in her country. At the presentation Lucila will be reading some chapters of the memoir she is working on. Students will learn about Colombia's recent history through the lens of Corredor's experience; as well as the art of memoir writing.
