A talk and Q&A with artist Violette Bule, followed by a brief workshop. Students will become familiar with Violette Bule’s photographic and mixed-media projects and learn how photographic education can be used as a means for social change.
Bule, who has developed pedagogical projects in some of Venezuela’s most notorious female prisons, uses photography, performance and other fictionalized forms of mediation to comment on and highlight the issues faced by different precarious subjects in their immediate, specific contexts. Under Bule’s guidance, we will engage in the creation of a collective staging which will then be photographed.
The objective of this hands-on activity is for students to express, creatively, ideas and notions regarding gender discrimination in educational settings.
