African Heritage Month: Shared Legacies - Narratives of Race and Reconciliation by Descendants of Slaveholders and the Enslaved

February 23
2:30 PM — 3:30 PM
Room N-452 at 199 Chambers St.

This event addresses the shared legacy of racism and slavery in the United States through the collected stories of descendants of enslaved people and enslavers who are members of the national racial reconciliation organization ‘Coming to the Table’ (CTTT).

CTTT is inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision that “the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.”  The anthology is co-edited by Professor Jill Strauss, faculty in the Speech, Communications, and Theater Arts Dept. This presentation will include an introduction to CTTT and then Professor Strauss will read from a few of the anthology narratives.
