In this session students will learn the steps involved when transferring from a community college to a four year college/university. The CUNY online application will be discussed, as well as the CUNY TIPPS course transfer website. Students will receive a transfer checklist and tips on how to narrow down their college search.
In this session students will learn all about the CUNY Proficiency Exam. Task 1 and Task 2 exam parts will be explained, as well as who needs to take the test, when it needs to be taken, how to register for it and resources to help students prepare for and pass this exam the first time around.
Students will learn what it means to “network”. They will also learn the 8 keys to networking, questions to ask during networking meetings/events and the do’s and don’ts of networking.
Creativity, flexibility and hard work are the keys to a successful job search. Topics in this session include: job developers, job fairs/Industry Specific Expos, Job Hunting on the Internet, Advertised Openings, Mailing Campaigns and Employment Agencies.
In this session students will be made aware of the pitfalls of credit cards, learn what affects their credit, how to save money for the present and future and resources to assist them measure their financial stability.
Students will learn tips on how to read textbooks, take better notes, prepare study materials for exams, break down class materials and reduce stress before exams.
In this workshop students will be given an overview of the most common scholarships that students may apply for while at the BMCC, or when moving on to a senior college. Eligibility requirements and application procedures are discussed.
In this session, students will learn to understand the curriculum and graduation requirements associated with the degree they have chosen. The paper data advisement sheet and the online version, DegreeWorks, will be discussed and demonstrated.
In this session students will be given information on 50 standard interview questions, 10 tough questions and 10 great answers, three types of telephone interviews, questions to ask the interviewer, how to dress ( and not to dress)for an interview, and the one question that nearly every college student answers wrong.
