Philip Berry
AA, Class of 1971
After graduating from BMCC, Mr. Berry earned a BA from Queens College, an M.S. from Columbia University School of Social Work and an M.B.A. from Xavier University, Cincinnati.
Until 2008, Philip Berry was Vice President for Global Workplace Initiatives at Colgate Palmolive, overseeing efforts in creating a global inclusive workplace environment. He is currently a partner in a private firm. Mr. Berry is a mayoral appointee to the New York City Department of Education’s Panel for Educational Policy, overseeing policy for over 1 million public school students.
Mr. Berry is on the Board of the City University School Construction Fund, a Trustee of the Board of Directors for New York City Center, and is a Trustee on the Board of Trustees of the City University of New York. Crain’s New York Business Magazine named him one of the “100 Most Powerful Minority Leaders in New York City.”
Mark W. Beckerman
AAS, Class of 1972
After graduation from BMCC, Mark Beckman continued his work as a staff photographer for the Daily News and then attended the University of Bologna in Italy for veterinary science, receiving his DVM in 1983. He founded The Animal Doctor’s Clinic in Garden City Long Island, and served two terms as President of the Long Island Veterinary Medical Association. He then served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. He returned to photography when he retired his practice in 2000. Dr. Beckerman served on the BMCC Board of Trustees from 2000-2004, acting as fund raising co-chair following 9/11.
Oneika Webb Griffin
AAS, Nursing, Class of 1988
Partner, Webb & Waterman, LLC
Oneika Webb Griffin worked for 17 years as a registered nurse after graduating from BMCC, and received a BSN from SUNY New Paltz in 2001. She received an MS in Leadership & Strategic Management from Manhattanville College in 2005. Ms. Griffin recently co-founded Webb & Waterman, a Strategy Consulting firm specializing in Work Life Balance policy Implementation and Employee Relations.
Marcia Hodge
AAS, Nursing, Class of 1997
Registered Nurse, Maimonides Medical Center
After immigrating to the US from Trinidad in 1988, Marcia Hodge attended BMCC and received her AAS in nursing.She attended Yale University in the Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist Program, receiving an MSN degree in 2006, and currently works in the open heart unit at Maimonides Hospital. She credits BMCC with “opening the doorway … to achieve all I have today.”
Mark MacDonald
AA, Liberal Arts, Class of 1966
Vermont State Senator
Mark MacDonald is a member of BMCC’s first graduating class of 1966. He served in Vietnam in the US army from 1968-1970, and received a BA from Clark University in Government/International Relations in 1972. He has been a beef farmer in Vermont since the early 1974. He served in the Vermont House of Representatives from 1983 –1994 and has served in the Vermont senate since 1997.
Susan P. Robbins
AA, Liberal Arts, Class of 1972
Associate Professor, University of Houston, Graduate College of Social Work
After graduation from BMCC, Susan Robbins received a BA from Hamline University in Sociology, then an MSW from the University of Minnesota in 1976, and completed her PhD at Tulane University in 1979. She is a licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been the recipient of many teaching awards over the years, including most recently, the Outstanding Faculty Award from the University of Houston Graduate School of Social Work in 2005.
Leslie Srolovits
AA, Class of 1973
Leslie Srolovits received his BA from Baruch College in 1975, and began his career in the world of public relations, promoting talent for such television programs as the Today Show, Phil Donahue Show, and the Mike Douglas Show. Most recently a Senior Systems Specialist for GreenPoint Bank, Leslie was responsible for relocation strategy and support of all technology within corporate headquarters. Prior to GreenPoint, Leslie was an Assistant Vice President for Executive Information Systems at Manufacturers Hanover/Chemical Bank. He is currently an FDIC Risk Consultant for Novo Banks in the tri-state area, and a member of the BMCC Foundation Board.

Jeremiah Hyacinth
AA, Class of 2001
CEO, UniRecruitment, Inc.
Jeremiah Hyacinth graduated with honors in 2001, and transferred to Columbia University for his Bachelor's degree in political science with a focus on International Relations. Born in St. Lucia, Mr. Hyacinth made the decision to put his graduate studies on hold so that he could help other international students by starting his own business, Uni-Recruitment.
Sharae’Nikai Robinson
AA, Class of 2002
Spoken word poet and actress
An honor student and recipient of the Alex Morrisey Award for excellence in Journalism while at BMCC, Sharae’Nikai Robinson later graduated magna cum laude from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2005 with a BA in history and drama/theater. Since graduating from BMCC, she has also managed a career as a spoken word poet and actress.
Ms. Robinson, who currently resides in Los Angeles, has pursued a writing and performance career and has recently appeared in the MTV comedy series “Yo Momma” and the docu/bio show “B Side” on the Starz in Black Network.
Lyda Shambo
AAS, Class of 2001
Critical Care Nurse
Lyda Shambo became a licensed RN immediately after graduation, and worked as a staff nurse at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She then received a BA in Nursing at SUNY Stony Brook in 2004. Lyda is currently completing a clinical anesthesia Masters Degree at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
Andrea Silva
AAS, Class of 2003
An honor student at BMCC, Andrea Silva continued her education at The City College of New York, where she just graduated with a BA in science and honors in biology. She is the 2006 recipient of a $12,000 Salk Scholarship and will be conducting research at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California this summer before she begins the PhD program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
