ACADEMIC POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Class Attendance
Absence is counted in hours, not in number of classes
Students are allowed one more hour of absence than the number of hours the class meets per week (missing one two hour class equals two hours of absence)
Faculty may assign a grade of “F” or “U” for excessive absences in any course

Faculty may count each lateness as an official hour of absence

  Students who arrive after the class starting time will be marked "late." Two lateness may be counted as an absence.

Clinical Attendance

Clinical practicums have specific reporting and leaving times
Students must report to the clinical and leave at the assigned time
If you will be absent from clinical you must call the site by the assigned reporting time
Clinical days missed for any reasons must be made up at the assigned clinical site on a non- holiday week during the day shift
·Clinical make-up day scheduling must be approved in advance by the program’s director and preceptor
Students should not expect flexibility regarding dates or times from clinical sites or BMCC

Health Screening
Students are required to have a Program Student Health Form properly completed by a licensed physician for one year
Failure to maintain a current Health Screening record will be considered a major deficiency

Student Professional Liability Insurance

Students are required to maintain in force a Professional Liability Insurance Policy (distributed from the program)
Failure to maintain a current Health Screening record will be considered a major deficiency

Clinical Dress Code
Students must wear neat and clean business attire (e.g., dress pants and shirt)
Students may not wear sneakers, boots, or jeans during the clinical

Papers and Other Written/Oral Assignments
Faculty (both College and Clinical) may assign papers or other written or oral assignments including computerized assignments, management reports, equipment surveys, and drug reports to students at any time
These assignments will be graded and the grade will be counted toward your course grade
Any evidence of academic dishonesty in these assignments will be considered a major deficiency

Pre-registration
Students eligible to pre-register must do so during their assigned pre-registration period
Students must carefully consider their program choices since Department Staff are not permitted to change pre-registration schedules once completed
If circumstances prevent you from pre-registering on time you must notify the Program Director in writing
Failure to pre-register on time or to notify the Program Director will be considered a deficiency

Examinations
Both announced and unannounced quizzes, based entirely on the readings,
can be given.
Cheating, attempting to cheat, soliciting or helping another to cheat will be considered a major deficiency
Attempting to remove or copy examination material from the testing site will be considered a major deficiency
Possessing more than one answer sheet during an examination will be considered evidence of academic dishonesty
Students are responsible for the accuracy of their answer sheets
No extra time will be given to transcribe answers onto answer sheets
Credit will only be given for answers which appear on the official examination answer sheet

Grading Policy
Course grades will be calculated according to the instructor’s course syllabus
Clinical courses are graded either “S” or “U”

Repeating HIT courses
If any HIT course is failed, the student may repeat that course only once
