| OUR CAMPUS |
| The campus, situated on 4.28 acres, became
occupied in January 1983. The modern structure, spanning four blocks
from Chambers Street to North Moore Street, is equivalent to the Empire
State Building lying on its side (minus the tower). |
| In addition to the 71 classrooms, eight
seminar rooms, numerous laboratories and three lecture halls (one
hall seats 200 and the others seat 100), the campus library is equipped
with 550 study carrels that permit use of audio/video cassettes. The
campus features a 913-seat auditorium, a 262-seat theater and a 99-seat
drama workshop. There is an intercollegiate-size swimming pool and
gymnasium which can be divided into three regulation basketball courts. |
| In September 1993 BMCC received the largest
donation ever made to a community college, Fiterman Hall, donated
by Miles and Shirley Fiterman. Fiterman Hall is located at 30 West
Broadway (between Park and Barclay), just a few short blocks from
the main building. |

when the World Trade Center collapsed. It is currently closed, but
plans are underway to rebuild a new Fiterman Hall with expanded classroom,
lab and office space to meet the needs of our growing college. |
| BMCC offers courses uptown
as well. Uptown courses are held at two locations. You can choose
to take classes at either our Harlem or Inwood/ Washington Heights
locations. |
Fiterman Hall Update:
BMCC has received unanimously positive support for rebuilding Fiterman
Hall. Recently, the New York City Council, the City of New York, and
the CUNY Central Office have all agreed that the best course of action
with Fiterman Hall is to tear down the existing building and construct
a new one. However, there are some outstanding issues that still need
to be resolved before the demolition of the existing building and
the design and construction of a new building can begin.
The CUNY Board of Trustees has recently announced the selection of
the architectural firm of Pei, Cobb, Freed, & Partners to design
a new Fiterman hall to replace the structure destroyed on 9-11. The
newly designed Fiterman will give BMCC space desperately needed by
our growing college. |
