| ABOUT THE INTERNSHIPS |
| Each student intern is assigned to a coordinator
(a faculty member in the Department of Cooperative Education) who is
knowledgeable about the student's field. The coordinator helps the
student secure internship placement and serves as the student's instructor
and advisor during the field experience. In addition, the student has
a unique opportunity to discuss and evaluate broader goals and career
objectives on an individual basis. |
| Cooperative Education interns
are expected to: |
 |
Work 15 hours a week for the length of the academic semester. (summer students should expect to work until the end of July.) |
 |
Complete a term project
assigned by the coordinator |
 |
Be evaluated by the worksite
supervisor. |
|
| Students receive two (2) academic credits for their participation in the internship course. Most interns work 15 hours a week in work-learning positions related to their acadmemic majors and career goals, but there is no maximum number of house a student may work. Some employers may require more hours and students may accept this requirement if they wish to work at that particular site. The overwhelming majority of internships are volunteer positions. Occasionally, employers offer a small salary or stipend, but no student is ever promised a stipend or salary when they register for an internship. |
